Guaranty Trust Bank has apologised to its customers following difficulties they experienced trying to use its new app. This comes after GTBank users took to social media to tear the bank apart for its malfunctioning app, GTWorld.
GTBank said the difficulties experienced were due to technical glitches while assuring users that its technical team is working tirelessly to rectify the situation and restore full functionality to the app.
“First, we would like to sincerely apologize that we couldn’t deliver the new GTWorld App to you seamlessly as we had communicated. We are aware that as a result of the recent update we initiated on the GTWorld Mobile Banking App, you have been unable to log in to the App,” the message reads.
Customers tear into GTBank over malfunctioning app
Customers are currently facing difficulties carrying out transactions through the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) app, GTWorld as a result of its latest update.
Technext reported , that GTBank announced July 12, 2023, as the release date for the new and updated version of the GTWorld Mobile Banking App on the Play Store and App Store.
In their statement, the bank mentioned plans to discontinue the old GTWorld app in a month’s time, just three months after discontinuing the GT Bank app due to user complaints regarding flaws and issues, leading to unsuccessful transfers or withdrawals.
GTBank stated,” On the 12th of July (Wednesday), we will release the new and updated version of the GTWorld Mobile Banking App to Play Store and App Store…Please note that we will discontinue support of the current version of the GTWorld App on August 12th.”
“However, if App Update is not set to automatic on your mobile device, you will need to manually update your GTWorld Mobile App to experience the newly designed app.
“When you launch the GTWorld Mobile Banking App, you will see a newly designed interface if you have App Updates set on automatic.”
The first discontinuation occurred in May when the bank announced that customers would no longer be able to access its online services via the GTBank Mobile App starting May 1, 2023. This followed by customers complaints about the app’s performance across social media channels in recent months, with complaints ranging from inability to log in to transaction history disappearing.
However, following the update, numerous customers found themselves locked out of the app and unable to sign in again, as reported by Technext.
GTBank customers expressed their disappointment and anger at being unable to utilize their banking app for transactions and facing issues with logging in. Many were surprised that the updated app was not readily available while the bank had already announced the cessation of services, based on several customer responses.

One customer, Mike, lamented his inability to log in to the bank app due to not receiving the 6-digit OTP (One-Time Password) from the bank.
He said, “if you guys know you can’t do the proper thing, why then do you disturb us to update our GTworld app only to be met with a Brickwall trying to login unsuccessfully & no 6digit OTP sent to our phone numbers registered to our account? This is utter rubbish!
Another customer, Ahmadu Galadima (@AhmaduGaladima), tweeted, “@gtbank don’t know what happened to you, but why on earth will you force an app update and not allow me to log in with old credentials? Can’t I do a password reset, use a secret question, provide the actual account number or the last 6 digits of the card? Why ask for just a phone number with an OTP that takes ages to arrive?”
Chiamaka expressed her frustration, saying, “I don’t know who sent me to update the GTWorld app @gtbank. All of a sudden, I can’t access my account and money. It’s stuck at sending me a code to get the app back up since last night. What’s the way forward? @gtbank, please help me quickly!”
