Nigerian home concierge startup, Eden Life, has unveiled its rebranded initiative and the grand launch of the Eden Marketplace, an expansive e-commerce platform aimed at revolutionising retail in the region.

The freshly introduced Eden Marketplace will encompass a diverse array of categories, incorporating groceries, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and beauty products. These will be supplementing its existing services such as laundry, cleaning, and the recently inaugurated Homemade on-demand food delivery service. This strategic expansion places Eden Life in direct competition with industry giants like Jumia and Konga.

Our rebrand signifies our evolution and dedication to 10xing the quality of your life, while Eden marketplace takes that commitment to the next level, allowing other dedicated vendors to leverage on the infrastructure we’ve built over the years, allowing our customers to flourish – conveniently get more done,’’ the company says

The announcement follows the company’s prior declaration in October 2023, signalling its intentions to broaden its offerings soon.

Eden Marketplace seeks to bridge the gap between buyers and sellers by establishing an inclusive online platform that addresses common issues like substandard goods and services, delivery delays, and ensuring prompt and efficient vendor payments.

What you should know about Eden Life

The idea for Eden Life Nigeria was born in 2019 when Nadayar Enegesi, along with Prosper Otemuyiwa and Silm Momoh, recognised the need to improve the quality of services in the market.

In an expansion move, in April 2022, the company ventured into Kenya while concurrently acquiring Lynk, a technology company that facilitates job opportunities for unemployed Kenyans.

According to Enegesi, the decision to expand into Kenya was driven by the aim of validating their concept in that market, which has proven successful. Notably, the Kenyan division has exhibited faster growth compared to its Lagos counterpart, which is attributed to not having to construct new infrastructure.

Furthermore, Enegesi expressed confidence in Eden Life’s prospects, suggesting the potential for profitability within 12 months.

What the rebrand signify

The rebranding symbolises the company’s evolution and its commitment to enhancing life quality tenfold, with the new Eden Marketplace extending the company’s infrastructure to empower vendors and customers alike, facilitating an environment where productivity and convenience thrive.

Eden Life’s foray into the e-commerce arena marks a strategic move to broaden its horizons from home services to a larger retail market, offering vendors and small businesses in various sectors a platform to sell their products.

Acknowledging the declining purchasing power in Nigeria, Eden Life adapted its model, shifting from its initial subscription-based home management services towards diversification, including the launch of Homemade by Eden, a quick-service restaurant, and now expanding its e-commerce platform. This strategic move aligns with projections indicating Nigeria’s e-commerce market could potentially reach $16 billion by 2028.

New competition in the eCommerce space

The company’s entry into the competitive e-commerce realm positions it in direct rivalry with industry leaders like Jumia and Konga, with aspirations to surpass their market presence. Eden Life plans to monetize its marketplace by charging a commission on sales, banking on the diverse range of vendors and customers expected to join the platform.

However, challenges in managing logistics and order fulfilment surfaced during a promotional event for their quick-service restaurant. The overwhelming demand exposed operational shortcomings. To address this, the company intends to collaborate with additional delivery partners and expand its delivery network to meet soaring order volumes.

Moreover, the marketplace’s infrastructure will grant vendors access to a dashboard facilitating tailored customer engagement, performance analysis, and seamless order management. Customers, on the other hand, can expect secure payments, real-time order tracking, and an array of services via Eden’s platform.
