Bard’s latest update: users in Nigeria can now access Gemini Pro and generate AI images
Prompt: “Generate an image of a fashion show in steampunk style digital art. Zoom in on their face.”

In December, Google unveiled Gemini, its largest and most advanced AI model, and announced that Bard would integrate a tailored version, Gemini Pro. Today, the tech giant has announced that users in Nigeria can now assess its services as part of the company’s plan to expand Gemini Pro in Bard for more languages and places.

According to a statement shared with Technext, Google indicated that it is also introducing image generation to Bard to help “bring ideas to life”.

Recall that in the December announcement, Google introduced Gemini Pro to Bard for English users. It also indicated that it gave Bard advanced understanding, reasoning, summarizing and coding abilities. Now, the company is making Gemini Pro available to Bard users in over 40 languages and more than 230 countries and territories.

According to Google, the inclusion of Gemini Pro services on Bard will enable more people to collaborate with the fastest and most capable version of Bard yet.

The Large Model Systems Organization, a leading evaluator of language models and chatbots across languages, recently shared that Bard with Gemini Pro is one of the most preferred chatbots available (with or without cost), noting that it has made a “stunning leap” forward. According to Google, blind evaluations with its third-party raters have identified Bard with Gemini Pro as one of the top-performing chatbots, compared to other leading free and paid alternatives.

Acknowledging user’s desire to corroborate Bard’s responses, Google has said that it is expanding its double-check feature, which is already used by millions of people in English, to more than 40 languages.

To use it, you need to click on the “G” icon, Bard will evaluate whether there is content across the web to substantiate its response. If it can be evaluated, you can click the highlighted phrases and learn more about supporting or contradicting information found by Search.

Generating images with Bard: All you need to know

In its latest update. Google will now allow users to generate images in English in most countries around the world, at no cost.

This new capability is powered by an updated Imagen 2 model, which is designed to balance quality and speed as well as deliver high-quality, photorealistic outputs. See a demo video below:

How do you use it? Just type in a description — like “create an image of a dog riding a surfboard” — and Bard will generate custom, wide-ranging visuals to help bring your idea to life.

To guarantee quality that is consistent with AI Principles, Google has said that the image generation feature has been designed with responsibility in mind.

For instance, to ensure there’s a clear distinction between visuals created with Bard and original human artwork, Bard uses SynthID to embed digitally identifiable watermarks into the pixels of generated images.

The tech giant has also explained that it has implemented technical guardrails and invested in safety training for its data to limit violent, offensive or sexually explicit content. It also promised to apply filters designed to avoid the generation of images of named people as well as continue to invest in new techniques to improve the safety and privacy protections of its models.

These updates, it believes, will make the AI application an even more helpful and globally accessible AI collaborator for everything from big, creative projects to smaller, everyday tasks.
