I think we can all agree that horse racing is a social sport, right? But does technology have that much of an impact on it? Well, the stats say that it does.

Over the last couple of years, horse racing has grown in popularity, especially among the younger tech-oriented generation, and this is not a coincidence. Even though it might feel odd to talk about horse racing staying in trend with the latest technological advancements, it was something that needed to be done to ensure a positive future for the sport.

You may consider horse racing as an age-old sport carefully tied to tradition, but in reality, it is something very different. Nowadays, horse racing is infused with technology, and best of all, the sport follows the latest tech advancements we are seeing constant changes.

We have technology in breeding, training, and races, which is pretty much every aspect of the sport.

So, what about social tech? How does social tech impact horse racing and can it really add a new feel to the sport?

Fan engagement is probably one of the most important things when it comes to a sport’s popularity and things are no different with horse racing. Fortunately, there are some technological advancements that have made the sport more accessible, more entertaining, and more viewer-oriented.

We are talking about technologies that change how we interact with sport or how we watch the races. Giving people a different perspective is a great thing and can bring a lot of excitement and drama to the sport.

But what’s changed in terms of fan engagement?

Well, we have virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), which are currently redefining how we experience sports in the first place. Horse racing is all about the experience of these events, and watching the race online or on TV doesn’t do the sport justice.

All the things are now going digital, so why not horse racing? After all, not everyone can check the Saratoga horse racing schedule, book a flight and accommodation, and travel to the US for a couple of days. 

But, with VR technologies, the real-world experience from such events will be much more affordable and accessible to the entire world.

AR applications, on the other hand, overlay real-time data onto screens, enhancing the viewing experience with detailed statistics and interactive features. These technologies not only make horse racing more accessible but also create new ways for fans to connect and share their experiences​​.

Social media platforms and specialized apps are crucial for building and maintaining communities within the horse racing world.
